pevely police patch

Pevely Police Chief Mark Glenn has released the name of a woman who apparently died in June when she was struck by a train. On Tuesday, Aug. 6, Glenn identified the woman as Sarah Bye, 38, Festus.

He said the Jefferson County Chief Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released its official report on the death and still has not announced if the death was an accident or suicide.

“That’s still ongoing,” he said. “The (Chief Medical Examiner’s Office) will make that determination.”

He said during the police investigation, officers found witnesses of the victim who saw her shortly before her death.

He said on June 10, his department was notified by the Dunklin Fire Department of a Burlington Northern train having stopped abruptly around 8 p.m. on railroad tracks behind the Super 8 hotel, 1711 Hwy. Z.

When officers responded, they located a woman who was deceased after apparently being struck by the train, he said. The body was discovered on the tracks to the west of the Super 8 hotel, he said.

He said members of the railroad crew were among those interviewed during the investigation.
