A collection of DVDs and some clothing recently were stolen from a storage unit in the 8900 block of Commercial Boulevard in Pevely.
After the burglar cut the lock off the storage unit, he or she replaced it with a different one, Pevely Police Chief Ron Weeks said.
The burglary was reported Monday (Aug. 11), but the victim estimated the theft happened between Aug. 2 and Aug. 11.
Stolen items included about $400 worth of DVDs and a bag of clothing valued at $80, Weeks said.
He said it mystifies him why a thief would bother to replace a lock after breaking in to commit a burglary.
“It’s unusual,” Weeks said. “The victim’s lock was found nearby. The lock she had on the unit was cut off and replaced with a different lock. She had it (the new lock) cut off.”
The incident remains under investigation, Weeks said today (Aug. 12).
He urges anyone with information to call Pevely Police at 636-475-5301.
