Pevely Police are seeking two men suspected of stealing from one storage unit and storing the items in another nearby unit. The alleged theft occurred about 6:50 p.m. June 10 at Budget Self Storage, 8913 Commercial Blvd. (Hwy. 61-67), in Pevely, police reported.
Capt. Larry Miller said the victim, a 36-year-old Pevely man, reported the theft about 3:05 p.m. June 11 and said someone had cut off the padlock on his unit and removed several items.
Stolen items included large storage totes containing tools, stationery, an antique cooler, two Pack ‘N Play items for toddlers, two extension cords, two boxes of grout and a portable highchair. Altogether, the items were valued at $2,915, and the padlock on the door was destroyed, the report said.
Surveillance footage showed two men allegedly taking items from the one unit and moving them to another one. Police are seeking a white male between 25 and 35 years old who was wearing a black baseball hat, sunglasses, a camouflage long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans, as well as a white male between 30 and 40 years old, who was wearing a black baseball hat, sunglasses, a plaid long-sleeve shirt, shorts and tennis shoes, according to the report.
The surveillance footage also reportedly showed the men use a gray Mazda Tribute four-dour SUV in the theft. The SUV had a license plate from a truck stolen out of Bonne Terre, the report said.
“The suspects are seen cutting off the reporting party’s lock, unloading items from his locker and into the SUV,” Miller said. “The suspects leave, then return a short time later and place the reporting party’s items into the locker next to his and place their own lock on it.”
Officers removed the lock from the unit where the stolen items had been stored and returned the items to the victim, Miller said.
He said the surveillance footage also showed the suspects allegedly stealing $800 worth of items from another storage unit that belongs to a 52-year-old Hillsboro woman.
“Those items have not been found,” Miller said. “Both lockers are in the same section of the business.”
