A 47-year-old St. Louis man who allegedly stole a power tool at the Oak Valley Golf Course and Resort in Pevely apparently tried to move a surveillance camera to avoid being seen, but instead gave Pevely Police an excellent way to identify him, Capt. Larry Miller reported.
“He used a stick to try to move the camera. Instead, we got a good look at his face,” Miller said.
He said the burglary at the golf course, 1230 Abbey Lane, was reported May 26 after employees discovered the theft. However, surveillance footage showed the burglary happened two days earlier, the report said.
“Somebody got into the maintenance shed and stole a concrete saw. It happened at 10:50 a.m. May 24. It was one guy. We’ve identified him and are seeking him,” Miller said June 2.
The concrete saw was valued at $1,300, he said.
Miller said police believe the suspect returned to the golf course several days later to attempt another theft.
“It happened at 4:15 a.m. May 29. On this one, nothing was taken. But, there was an attempted break-in at the same property to a shed door,” Miller said. “We think officers arrived before he could steal anything and he left. There must have been another subject with him, because there was a vehicle waiting for him and they took off.”
