Festus Police arrested a 40-year-old Pevely man for allegedly trying to kidnap his former girlfriend, a 42-year-old De Soto woman who said she feared the suspect was going to harm her. The incident happened about noon March 16 at the intersection of West Main Street and West Avenue, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
“We were called about a disturbance,” Lewis said. “When officers got there, they found there had been a fight between a boyfriend and ex-girlfriend. She says he had been following her. He asked her to get into his car and she refused, but he forced her into the vehicle.
“He began throwing some of her stuff out of the car window. She finally got out, ran away and called the police.”
The suspect was arrested a short time later nearby, Lewis said.
“We found him at a friend’s house in town,” Lewis said. “He was arrested, processed and released pending issuance of warrants.”
Lewis said the victim was not hurt, but was shaken up by the experience.
“She said she was scared he was going to hurt her real bad,” Lewis said.
Festus Police are seeking charges against the suspect for kidnapping and assault, Lewis said Wednesday (May 20).
