A 42-year-old Pevely man was arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Arnold. The man was riding in a car that was pulled over because the sticker on the license plate was torn in half, Arnold Police reported.
At about 12:30 p.m. April 5, an officer stopped the 2006 Ford Focus on the northbound I-55 entrance ramp off Richardson Road. The officer checked the plate and learned it was registered in 2020 but not in 2021 like the damaged tab said. The woman who was driving the car said she had just purchased the Focus and was not aware the license plate had been damaged, the report said.
The officer also discovered the man riding in the car was wanted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on a felony stealing warrant. In addition, the officer searched the car and allegedly found a black plastic bag on the passenger-side floorboard that contained a substance believed to be meth, according to the report.
The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and held for the Sheriff’s Office. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Cpl. Brett Ackermann said.
The woman was given a warning about the damaged year sticker and released at the scene, Ackermann said.
