Eureka Police are working with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to find a person of interest in connection with an investigation into mail thefts in Eureka and the St. Louis area. The man allegedly was seen on several occasions stealing mail in Eureka, including a check from a concrete business, police reported.
The owner of B&W Concrete Services, 15 Truitt Drive, contacted police on Dec. 5 after discovering a customer’s check likely had been stolen. The owner said he had contacted a customer for failing to make a payment in October, but the customer said the check had been mailed to the business, the report said.
Surveillance video allegedly showed a man on a motorcycle stealing mail from the business at about 6:20 p.m. Oct. 16. Later, a check for $2,645.71 made out to the business was altered using Wite-Out to replace the company’s name with another name, according to the report.
The customer told investigators the check was mailed to B&W Concrete on Oct. 12, and it was cashed on Oct. 17, Eureka Police reported.
The man suspected of stealing that check allegedly was seen in October and November stealing mail from other locations in Eureka, the report said.
U.S. Postal Inspection Service agents believe the man is part of a group stealing mail in St. Louis and St. Louis County, Eureka Police reported.
As of Dec. 19, the person of interest had not been located, Lt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about mail thefts in October and November to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
