Eureka Police arrested a 55-year-old Pacific man after he allegedly stole $100 from a 40-year-old Union man outside of the QuikTrip gas station, 290 E. Fourth St. The Pacific man allegedly said he sold the other man a chain necklace, police reported.
Officers were called at about 11:15 p.m. July 16 to the gas station, and an employee told them that the Union man was robbed while sitting at a table outside the convenience store. The alleged victim told police the other man had sat down at the table and begged him for $40, the report said.
The Union man had $100 in $20 bills, and the Pacific man attempted to sell him a silver chain necklace. When the Union man would not buy the necklace, the Pacific man allegedly threw the necklace at him, grabbed the money and ran, according to the report.
Officers identified the Pacific man after observing surveillance video, and they found the man at the nearby Popeyes restaurant, 80 Hilltop Village Center Drive. They brought the man back to the gas station, and the Union man said that was the man who stole his money, the report said.
The Pacific man was arrested and taken to the Police Station. The man had $96.76 and a pack of cigarettes with him, according to the report.
The Pacific man told police the Union man wanted to buy the necklace, and he sold the jewelry for $20, the report said.
The Pacific man was booked and released with a summons to return to Eureka Municipal Court for alleged stealing, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
