Officials have not yet decided whether to file charges in connection with a fatal shooting on the Karsch’s Village Market parking lot in Barnhart in November, Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Forrest Wegge said today (Jan. 12).
Robert Larson, 48, of Imperial died at the scene Nov. 6, 2014, after being shot by a 23-year-old Karsch’s employee, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
“We have reviewed information (from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office) and are waiting for additional information before we can reach a decision,” Wegge said.
Larson died of gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen, the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office previously reported.
Larson was found to have “acute ethanol intoxication,” a Medical Examiner’s Office spokeswoman said Jan. 9
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call at 10:20 a.m. about a disturbance involving an allegedly intoxicated man in the store, 1730 Hwy. M. Employees told deputies they followed the man, Larson, to his vehicle, trying to stall him from driving until law enforcement officers could arrive, but he retrieved a gun from his vehicle and pointed it at the employees. An employee with a concealed carry permit pulled out a handgun and fatally shot the man, deputies reported.
