Nine guns, antique coins and other items, altogether valued at $10,300, recently were stolen from a home in the 14000 block of Hwy. 21 in the De Soto area, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Between 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. July 8, someone kicked in the front door to the home and stole the items, the report said.

Stolen items included a Remington 240 bolt-action rifle; a Remington 16-gauge, pump-action shotgun; a Remington .22 semi-automatic rifle; a Savage .243 bolt-action rifle; a Mossberg 20-gauge, pump-action shotgun; a Mossberg 410 pump-action shotgun; a Crickett .22 rifle; an H&R 20-gauge, single-shot shotgun; and a World War II German Mauser 8mm rifle with a swastika on the barrel, as well as antique coins, about $100 in cash and a silver pocket watch, according to the report.

The victim told deputies when he returned home, he found the garage door leading to the kitchen open. He noticed that some guns were missing from the garage and searched the house, which was ransacked, and found other items missing, the report said.

A deputy found a footprint on the door and muddy footprints throughout the house. In addition, the deputy noticed a handprint on the basement window, and fingerprints were taken as evidence, according to the report.

As of Monday (July 13), none of the stolen items had been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrests, said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Sheriff’s Office.
