jcso 2 children dead 5-28-24

Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

Eureka Police are investigating the theft of nine catalytic converters from recreation vehicles stored at St. Louis RV Storage, 1500 S. Outer Road. The damage to the nine RVs was estimated at about $18,000, police reported.

Video surveillance reportedly showed someone enter the storage business parking lot at 2:24 a.m. April 23 and get under several RVs and cut off the converters. It appeared the person in the video used a jet ski cover to collect the converters and carry them off the parking lot, the report said.

A reciprocating saw blade was found on the lot near one of the damaged RVs, according to the report.

As of May 6, none of the converters had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
