Arnold Police are investigating a theft of boat motors, a gun and other items from an SUV and a boat left overnight at a boat ramp at the end of Fannie Drive near the Meramec River. The theft happened between 8 p.m. Jan. 19 and 11 a.m. Jan. 20 after the victim’s SUV got stuck at the boat ramp and he left it there, a report said.
The victim left the SUV, a 2000 GMC Yukon, unlocked, and a Smith & Wesson 9mm semiautomatic handgun was stolen from it. In addition, several items were stolen from the boat, which was on a trailer attached to the SUV, according to the report.
Stolen items included a boat motor, a trolling motor, goose decoys and two batteries. In all, the stolen items were valued at $1,650, the report said.
The victim, who had taken the boat to go goose hunting along the river, returned for the SUV and boat the next day and found them missing, Detective Lt. James Jones said.
“The lesson here is if you get your vehicle stuck at a boat dock, get it towed. Don’t leave it there all night,” Jones said.
As of Jan. 26, the stolen items had not been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrests, Jones said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
