A woman who worked at a day care center run by Victory Church, 1 Victory Drive, southwest of Pevely has been charged for allegedly abusing infants in her care, and her mother, who was her supervisor at the day care, has been charged for allegedly failing to report the abuse, according to court records.

Kaileen R. Boyd, 24, of Hillsboro was charged Monday (March 16) with five counts of abuse or neglect of a child – no sexual contact. Her mother, Kimberly A. Boyd, 55, of Hillsboro, was charged March 13 with three counts of abuse or neglect of a child. Each of the charges is a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Neither woman had been taken into custody as of this afternoon (March 19), authorities reported.

Two other employees at the day care center reported that between July and September 2017, they saw Kaileen Boyd holding a boy who was about 1-year-old, and she allegedly “became upset and twisted the child’s leg, causing him to scream. One of those witnesses also said Kaileen Boyd allegedly “became aggravated and grabbed (a different) child by the throat,” the report said.

Several other employees at the day care center accused Kaileen Boyd of abusing children, including placing her hand over screaming infants’ mouths. Witnesses also accused her of shaking a child, according to the report.

In another instance, Kaileen Boyd allegedly “held (a) child against a wall by his neck and torso while yelling at the child,” the report said.

The victims all were under the age of 2, according to the report.

Two of the witnesses said they reported the abuse to Kimberly Boyd, the day care director at the time, and she allegedly failed to report the incidents to the proper authorities and allowed Kaileen Boyd to continue working at the facility until January 2020, the probable-cause statement in that case said.
