Eureka Police are investigating a reported burglary at Eureka Self Storage, 1699 West Fifth St., where more than $2,200 worth of items were stolen. Five storage lockers were broken into between 3 a.m. and 3:40 a.m. May 11, but items were reported missing from only one locker, Capt. David Wilson reported.
A cash register worth $950, an iPhone 8 worth $600, a Playstation video game system worth $350, a Playstation Ferrari wheel accessory worth $250, a keyboard worth $75 and 15 $2 bills were taken from a locker. The total value of the items stolen is $2,255, the report said.
A manager at the storage company contacted police at 2:18 p.m. May 11 after discovering locks on five lockers had been cut. Other locks also had cut marks, but entry was not gained into other lockers at the complex, according to the report.
There also was a hole cut in the chain-link fence surrounding the business. Video surveillance showed two people dressed in dark clothing enter the business with bolt cutters at about 3 a.m. The two people are seen on video surveillance from surrounding businesses exiting the property with boxes at 3:40 a.m. before leaving the area on foot, the report said.
A short time later, the two people returned in a silver Ford Taurus, which they put the boxes in, before driving away, according to the report.
As of May 23, the people in the surveillance footage had not been identified, and none of the reported stolen items had been recovered, Capt. David Wilson said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to contact Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
