A rear window was shattered on an SUV that was stolen from outside a home on Hawk Hill Drive in Eureka, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol later recovered it. A key fob had been left inside the 2017 GMC Terrain before it was stolen, Eureka Police reported.
A 61-year-old Eureka man called Eureka Police just after noon on April 15 when he discovered his SUV missing. He said a friend left the key fob in the Terrain at about 7 p.m. April 14, adding that SUV was still outside his home at about 6:45 a.m. April 15, the report said.
On April 17, a trooper found the SUV on the shoulder of westbound I-44 just past the Six Flags Road exit, and the Terrain was towed from the scene. A Eureka Police detective inspected the SUV and discovered the shattered window and glass inside the Terrain. A front window and a door frame were damaged, and there was a white powdery residue around the damage, according to the report.
The damage was estimated at $1,000, Eureka Police reported.
The key fob was inside the Terrain, but the SUV would not start. It is not known why the Terrain wouldn’t start, but the SUV has been returned to the owner, Lt. Michael Werges said.
As of April 21, no suspects had been identified, Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the theft to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
