Eureka Police patch

A 36-year-old Eureka man who encountered a stranger on his screened-in porch early May 20 held the man at gunpoint until police arrived, Eureka Police reported.

Police said the alleged intruder is 25 and from Little Rock, Miss. Police were called to the home in the 1400 block of West Fifth Street at 3:11 a.m.

A 36-year-old Eureka woman, who also lives at the house, told authorities her dog’s barking woke her up. When she went into the kitchen, the woman said she heard tapping on the back door and saw the silhouette of a man through the window, the report said.

She called for her husband, who told her to call 911 and then went into the screened-in porch with a handgun and ordered the Mississippi man to lie on his stomach on the floor, according to the report.

When police arrived, the Mississippi man was lying on the floor and was not wearing shoes or socks and had no personal belongings. The man’s shoes, socks and cell phone were found by the fence on the east side of the property, the report said.

The Mississippi man allegedly told officers he had blacked out and didn’t know how he got to the home, and he also claimed he may have been drugged, according to the report.

The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station where he was booked and released, Capt. David Wilson said. Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Office for second-degree burglary, first-degree trespassing and peeping in windows.
