missing

A body found last week near the Black River south of Lesterville in Reynolds County has been identified as Sharon Nelson, 63, of the Hillsboro and High Ridge areas.

Nelson had been missing since Nov. 3, when she was last seen getting into a red pickup outside a home in the 4900 block of Diamond Drive in High Ridge, where she had been staying with her daughter, said Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The daughter reported Nelson missing on Nov. 15, Higginbotham said.

Nelson’s body was found on Jan. 13, and an autopsy was performed, said Sheriff Tom Volner of the Reynolds County Sheriff’s Department.

“It was determined to be homicide, and it’s under investigation,” Volner said.

He said today (Jan. 19) that no arrests had been made, but there are “persons of interest we’re trying to locate.”

The Reynolds County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will assist them if needed, Higginbotham said.
