Fenton-area man charged for domestic assault

Mirsad Omerovic

Mirsad Omerovic, 35, of the Fenton area has been charged for allegedly attacking a woman at a home in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. He was arrested on Monday, April 14, court records show.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Feb. 3 charged Omerovic with first-degree assault, a class B felony; third-degree assault a class E felony; and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony, according to court documents.

Omerovic was being held on Monday, April 14, on a $20,000 surety-bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records said.

A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was called on Feb. 3 to the Fenton-area home. A woman told the deputy Omerovic had yelled at her and told her to leave the home, the case’s probable-cause statement said.

The woman said when she tried to leave, Omerovic allegedly blocked her and started hitting her in the head and upper body. She also said he choked her, the report said.

The woman said she was able to get out of the home, but Omerovic allegedly followed her holding a knife. She said she ran back into the home and was able to close the door as Omerovic swung the knife at her, according to the report.

The woman was transported by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County for evaluation, the report said.

Omerovic was not at the home when the deputy arrived, according to the report.

A class B felony is punishable by five to 15 years in prison, and a class E felony carries a penalty of up to four years in prison. The armed criminal action felony is punishable by three to 15 years in prison.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Tiffany S. Baker is prosecuting the case.
