Authorities are seeking the driver of a Mercedes-Benz who fled the scene after a rollover accident around 5 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 27) at Mill Street and Harrison Lane in Festus, Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
The driver, a 27-year-old woman from the Dittmer area, apparently was not hurt despite the 2011 Mercedes-Benz she was driving rolling over “two or three times,” Lewis said. Two passengers in the car also were uninjured and fled the scene, but were soon arrested on outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions, Lewis said.
“(The Mercedes-Benz) had been traveling at a high rate of speed south on Mill and was attempting to pass a car when the front car attempted to turn left at Harrison,” Lewis said. “The Mercedes struck the car (a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada) and flipped. The (Mercedes-Benz) driver fled the scene on foot.”
The driver of the Bravado, a 38-year-old Festus woman, was not injured, Lewis said.
The passengers in the Mercedes-Benz who were arrested are a 24-year-old House Springs man and a 26-year-old St Louis man.
“The 26-year-old was arrested at the Festus Gardens apartments on warrants from St. Louis County and St. Charles County,” Lewis said. “The 24-year-old was arrested walking on Hwy. 61-67 by St. Pius (High School) on warrants from Jefferson County and the city of Hillsboro. We’ll seek warrants on the driver for traffic violations and leaving the scene of an accident.”
He said the Mercedes-Benz had extensive damage and the Bravada had damage to its left-front section.
