Patrick E. McCartney Jr., 37, of House Springs recently was sentenced to seven years in prison on felony drug charges, according to court documents.

On Jan. 14, 2014, McCartney, a persistent offender, was found in Jefferson County with methamphetamine. Then, on Feb. 27, 2015, he was found in Jefferson County with chemicals commonly used to make meth, as well as with alprazolam, a controlled substance, court papers show.

McCartney pleaded guilty to two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and to one count of felony possession of a chemical with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance. On Jan. 6, Jefferson County Div. 3 Circuit Judge Nathan B. Stewart sentenced McCartney to a seven-year prison term for the charge stemming from the January 2015 incident, and Div. 6 Circuit Judge Troy A. Cardona sentenced McCartney to two seven-year terms for the other charges. All those terms, though, are to be served concurrently, or at the same time, the report said.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Angela D. Downing handled the case connected to the January 2015 case, and assistant prosecuting attorney Trisha C. Stefanski handled the other case.

The seven years McCartney was sentenced to in January 2016 are to be served concurrent with a 10-year prison term McCartney previously was sentenced to for felony drug trafficking stemming from a July 2012 incident in Jefferson County. In that case, McCartney was sentenced in April 2013 to 10 years, but was released in July 2014 after completing a treatment program and the sentence was suspended and he got five years’ probation. However, McCartney violated the probation, and in May 2015, the 10-year term was executed, according to court records.

Also in May 2015, McCartney was sentenced to three years for felony possession of a controlled substance tied to a January 2012 incident in Jefferson County, and that term also is being served concurrent with the others.

McCartney previously was convicted of felony possession of a controlled substance tied to a January 2009 incident in St. Louis and got probation.

McCartney currently is in the Northeast Correctional Center in Bowling Green.
