The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 42-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, both of St. Louis, who reportedly were found in the De Soto area with a van stolen in St. Louis. The two were found with the van in a carwash at the VP Racing Fuels gas station, 4090 Athena School Road, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
A deputy was checking on the business east of De Soto at about 11:45 p.m. Dec. 12, when he saw the van in a carwash bay. The deputy checked the license plate number on the 2008 Toyota Sienna van and discovered the plate was registered to a Ford Taurus, the report said.
Then, the deputy checked the van’s vehicle identification number and learned it had been reported stolen in St. Louis on Nov. 18. The man in the van already was wanted on a warrant from the Sheriff’s Office for driving with a revoked license, according to the report.
The man was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. The woman was released at the scene. The Sheriff’s office will seek charges against the man for first-degree tampering and against the woman for second-degree tampering, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
