The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery that occurred near the intersection of El Vado and La Somera drives east of Hillsboro. A man allegedly stole a woman’s bag while she was walking in the area on Sept. 8, police reported.
According to the report, the woman said she was walking near the intersection when a man driving a white Chevrolet Malibu approached her and two people she was walking with and asked if they “wanted to smoke?”
The woman said she told the man no, and he drove down the street. However, he turned the car around and drove back toward the group, the report said.
The man got out of the car wearing a black mask and allegedly took the woman’s bag. The man, who also was wearing a white T-shirt and black jeans, got back into the Malibu along with the two people who were walking with the woman and drove away, according to the report.
The woman said she did not know the man who was driving the Malibu. However, she said she did know another person who was in the car when the man drove up to her, the report said.
As of Sept. 16, the bag had not been recovered, and the Sheriff’s Office reported investigators believe they know who the man is but he had not been arrested. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide further information about the man who allegedly stole the bag.
