Authorities are seeking a man who allegedly was fleeing from St. Genevieve County deputies on Tuesday (July 13) and ran away after crashing the car he was driving at the intersection of Plattin and Harness roads near south of Festus, St. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Jason Schott said.
A St. Genevieve deputy attempted to stop the car at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after identifying the driver as a man wanted on at least five warrants from various agencies. Schott said he did not know what the warrants were for and what agencies wanted the man. The major also did not know the year, make or model of the car the man was driving.
Schott also could not provide information about the man’s age or the town where he lives.
When the deputy attempted to stop the car on Hwy. OO and DD near I-55 between Festus and Bloomsdale, the driver fled north on the interstate. The deputy chased the car onto northbound Hwy. 61 before getting onto southbound Plattin Road, Schott said.
The pursuit continued to where Plattin Road intersects with Harness Road, and the driver was unable to negotiate a turn where the roads form a T, and the car ran off the road into a wooded area. The driver got out of the car and ran from deputies, Schott said.
As of this afternoon (July 16), the St. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office was still looking for the man, Schott added.
