Eureka Police arrested a 39-year-old Wichita, Kan., man for allegedly firing a gun several times into a creek behind a home on Elk Run Drive. The man was not allowed to possess a gun because of a protection order filed against him in Christian County, Mo., Eureka Police reported.
Officers were called to the Eureka home at about 8:50 p.m. July 27 after several neighbors reported hearing gunshots. When they arrived, a neighbor told police he saw a man walk out of a wooded area and into a home on the Elk Run Drive, the report said.
Officers saw a man and woman talking to each other through the home’s kitchen window, and when they entered the house, they allegedly saw a Beretta 92FS handgun and two empty magazine clips on a kitchen table. The man allegedly said he fired the two 15-round magazines into a creek behind the home in the wooded area while teaching the women’s child how to shoot a gun, according to the report.
The man, who appeared intoxicated, was arrested. He also allegedly provided false information to officers, who eventually determined his true identity and learned he was wanted on a warrant for second-degree domestic assault from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Eureka Police reported.
The man was taken to the Eureka Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm, Capt. Michael Werges said.
