An employee was injured early Dec. 1 in a fire at MetalTek, 8600 Commercial Blvd., in Pevely. The man was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, Dunklin Fire Chief Brad Williams said.
He said he didn’t know the extent of the man’s injuries.
The Dunklin Fire Protection District got a call about the fire at 12:50 a.m., and when firefighters arrived at 12:56 p.m., they noticed smoke coming from the rear of the structure. A supervisor said a furnace had exploded, the report said.
The fire was contained to a back area, and crews got the flames under control in less than two hours. With the help of nine additional trucks, the firefighters battled the flames for an hour and a half, putting down small spot fires. The last unit left the scene at 3 a.m., Williams said.
He said the fire did not appear suspicious.

The Antonia, Hillsboro, Mapaville, Rock Community, Jefferson R-7 and Hematite fire protection districts and the Crystal City, Herculaneum and Festus fire departments helped with the call, and the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District responded to the scene.
