A 26-year-old man was shot multiple times early this morning (Aug. 26) after he allegedly forced his way into an apartment in the 300 block of Emerson Drive and got into an altercation with a 27-year-old St. Louis-area man who was inside, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The 26-year-old was taken to an area hospital following the shooting and was in critical condition and undergoing surgery this morning, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.

He said he did not know the shooting victim’s hometown.

The St. Louis man reportedly ran away from the Walden Pond Apartment complex, where the shooting occurred. Deputies believe he is still armed, Bissell said.

At about 3 a.m. today, the shooting victim reportedly showed up at the apartment where a woman he previously had a relationship with lived. When the woman answered the door, the 26-year-old allegedly forced his way into the apartment, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The St. Louis man already was inside the apartment, and he and the 26-year-old man reportedly began arguing and got into a physical altercation. Then, the St. Louis man allegedly shot the 26-year-old before running away from the apartment, the report said.

Officials do not know what the two men were arguing about, or why the St. Louis man fled form left the apartment after the shooting, Bissell said.

Deputies searched the area for about two hours but did not find the alleged shooter.
