Festus Fire truck

A Festus-area man fell from a forklift while working on a window at a storage business Monday evening (March 29) and was taken by ambulance for medical treatment, authorities reported.

The Festus Fire Department got a call around 8:45 p.m. about the incident at the storage business in the 11000 block of Pounds Road in Festus, Chief Kevin Cremer said.

He said the victim works at the business.

“There was a guy on a makeshift scaffold – a forklift truck that had a pallet on it – and he fell into a trench,” Cremer said. “It was about an 8-foot fall. The (trench) was nearby. He was alone. It was lucky he had a phone to call for help.”

Cremer said it took firefighters about 25 minutes to get the man out of the trench and get him help.

The victim was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur with ankle and shoulder injuries, JPAD Administrator Curtis Stueve said.
