Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies allegedly found a bag containing narcotics and a glass smoking pipe in a pickup a 45-year-old Perryville man was sleeping in outside a Hillsboro-area business, authorities reported.

Deputies were called at about 6:30 a.m. July 20 to a business in the 3000 block of Hwy. Z east of Hillsboro because the man appeared to be asleep in a 1994 Dodge Ram. When deputies approached the pickup, they allegedly saw a smoking pipe, the report said.

The deputies woke the man, and when they searched the pickup, they allegedly found the bag with what appeared to be illegal drugs and another smoking pipe, according to the report.

The deputies released the man at the scene, pending the application for warrants, the report said.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, the Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, Capt. Matt Moore said.
