A former Jefferson County man has been charged for allegedly killing his father, Edward Goedde, in their Manchester home on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Jeffrey M. Goedde, 41, was arrested and charged after turning himself in at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and reporting the crime.

He was charged today, Dec. 19, with first-degree murder, a class A felony punishable by 10-30 years or life in prison, and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony punishable by three to 15 years in prison. As of today, he was being held without bond in the St. Louis County Jail.

Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak said Goedde had previously lived in the Fenton area and told deputies he reported the crime there because he trusted the Sheriff’s Office and not the Manchester Police Department.

Goedde entered the Sheriff’s Office lobby at about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday and told deputies his father was unconscious in the kitchen of their Manchester home and was bleeding from his face and back, the report said.

Goedde allegedly said he used his hands to strike his father and may have used a kitchen knife and other weapons but could not remember. He reportedly said he made a mistake and wanted to turn himself in for the crime, according to the probable-cause statement in the case.

The Sheriff’s Office notified the Manchester Police Department, which performed a wellness check at a home in the 100 block of Baxter Heights Court. Manchester Police reported finding a strong bleach odor and a man dead in the kitchen, the report said.

Goedde was detained by the Sheriff’s Office until he was released to Manchester Police. Goedde reportedly told Manchester Police that he knew he was not free to leave because he “accidentally killed someone.”

He did not make any further statements and requested an attorney, the probable-cause statement said.

During the investigation, officers found a kitchen knife in the kitchen trash can. An autopsy revealed injuries to Edward Goedde, including 50 stab wounds, broken bones, strangulation and blunt force trauma to the man’s face, head and back, the probable-cause statement said.

An attorney is not listed for Goedde.
