Garrett Noll, 22, who reportedly admitted to shooting “warning shots,” one of which struck a 64-year-old Mapaville woman in the back of the head on March 31 near Hematite, has been charged with a felony over the incident, authorities reported.

The victim was not seriously hurt, but her wound required stitches before she was released from medical care.

Noll was charged April 9 with second-degree assault, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, court records show.

According to the probable-cause statement in the case, the victim and her husband went to an address in the 4200 block of Hillsboro Hematite Road the evening of March 31 to drop off a “care package” for a woman who lived there. When the victim and her husband were leaving, Noll – who lives next door – allegedly fired three shots from a Smith & Wesson handgun, striking the victim’s vehicle twice and striking the victim in the back of the head.

The statement says Noll admitted to shooting warning shots “into the woods near the victim’s vehicle and at the vehicle at least once in an attempt to disable the vehicle.”

Noll admitted to consuming alcohol prior to firing the gun, the report states.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said today (April 11) in a written statement that Noll’s home shares a driveway with the home of the woman the victim visited.

Noll allegedly told investigators he did not believe the victim had a legitimate reason to be at the neighboring residence, so he fired the shots. However, the investigation determined the victim had a valid reason to be there, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

At 8:28 p.m., after the victim was shot, her husband took her to the Mapaville Fire Station, 3687 Plass Road, Fire Chief Darryl Reed said.

Then, Joachim-Plattin Ambulance took her from the station to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, where she was treated and released, JPAD Administrator Curtis Stueve said.

Court records show that Noll’s bond was set at $10,000.
