A St. Louis man authorities were seeking for allegedly shooting a Festus man in October was arrested Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 30), according to Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis.

Police had been seeking Tyrone Ross, 22, since Oct. 19, when he was charged with first-degree assault, a class A felony, in connection with the Oct. 14 shooting, which happened in the 200 block of North Ninth Street in Festus.

“He (Ross) was arrested at approximately 4 p.m. (on Nov. 30) in north St. Louis,” Lewis said. “There was a short pursuit – first by vehicle, then by foot. He is being held in St. Louis City Jail on charges stemming from the pursuit,” Lewis said today (Dec. 1).

At about 1:20 a.m. Oct. 14, Festus Police got a report about gunfire on North Ninth Street and found the 30-year-old victim at a nearby residence in the 800 block of Moore Street. The victim was able to give a statement before being taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur for medical treatment.

Ross and the victim, who did not know each other, had been at a home on North Ninth Street where the homeowner allegedly was showing Ross a gun, the probable-cause statement said.

The victim reportedly got nervous and asked the homeowner to take him home, so the two walked outside and got in a car, but the homeowner reportedly left the victim alone in the car while he returned to the house to get a cell phone.

Then, the report said, Ross walked outside with his girlfriend to move a vehicle and after talking to the victim, allegedly pulled out a Glock handgun and shot him about six times. Ross allegedly went back inside the house and told the homeowner to call the police and tell them that the homeowner’s wife had shot the victim, the report said.

Ross then reportedly laid down the handgun, got the homeowner’s wife’s phone, dialed 911, handed the phone to the homeowner and left, the report said.

Lewis said the victim was shot “all over his body.”

Lewis also said he never got an update on the victim’s condition after the Oct. 14 shooting.

The class A felony is punishable by to10 to 30 years or life in prison.
