Arnold Police took a St. Louis man into custody after he allegedly left the scene of an accident, broke into a home, fled from officers and bit an officer. No one was injured in the accident, and the officer was not seriously injured in the scuffle with the suspect, police reported.

The suspect, Thomas M. Green, 22, is facing three felonies and a misdemeanor following the alleged crime spree on April 9.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged him on April 10 with first-degree burglary, a class B felony; leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest, both class E felonies; and fourth-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor, according to court documents.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to five to 15 years in prison for the class B felony, up to four years in prison for each of the class E felonies and up to one year in jail and up to a $2,000 fine for the class A misdemeanor.

Green was being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.

At about 2:15 p.m. April 9, Arnold Police responded to a four-vehicle accident on Jeffco Boulevard near Black Oak Trail after Green reportedly drove a 2012 Subaru Outback south in a northbound lane on Jeffco Boulevard and hit the right side of a 2012 GMC Acadia driven by a 51-year-old Arnold woman, police reported.

A 62-year-old St. Louis man, driving a 2014 Chevrolet Impala, avoided being hit, but his car was scratched by debris on the road. The Subaru then hit a guard rail and was struck by a 2015 GMC Canyon, driven by a 57-year-old Arnold man, the report said.

After the accident, Green allegedly ran into a nearby wooded area, waded through a shallow pond near the Cascade subdivision and while covered with mud, forced his way through a basement door at a home in the 3400 block of Cascade Court, the probable-cause statement in the case said.

Green allegedly tried to reach the main floor, but a resident was home and blocked the door leading from the basement into the rest of the home. Green then fled from the home into a nearby wooded area, the report said.

Green returned to the accident scene, and an officer ordered him to stop, and he reportedly refused, but the officer grabbed him and the two fell. Then, Green allegedly bit the officer on his right forearm before officers were able to subdue him, the report said.

Green suffered an injury on his forehead and was taken to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County for evaluation, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said.

The Outback and Acadia were towed from the scene, and the Impala and Canyon were driven from the scene, Arnold Police reported.

Arnold Police found muddy footprints in the home’s basement, and the footprints matched the shoes Green was wearing when he was arrested, according to the report.
