A 34-year-old Festus man, allegedly intoxicated, was arrested early Saturday (Feb. 1) after breaking a window to get into what he claimed he thought was his apartment, says Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis.

The man frightened the people who lived in the apartment in the 700 block of Fifth Street when they heard breaking glass, Lewis said.

“We received the call about 1:30 a.m.,” he said. “The apartment was occupied by a couple and their children. The father called in the report and the mother took the children and hid in a closet.”

Lewis said the man was not injured and fell asleep on the family’s couch, where officers found him when they arrived.

The man had outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions, including Crystal City, Lewis said.

Festus Police will seek felony property damage charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
