A 45-year-old homeless man was arrested April 7 in connection with a theft of a Chevy 2500 pickup from Mueller Motors in De Soto.
The theft was reported April 4, and on April 7, a resident reported that a possible suspect was near Valley and Third streets in De Soto. When officers arrived, however, they could not find the suspect, De Soto Police Chief Rick Draper said.
After canvassing the area, though, the officers located a man resembling the suspect just outside the city limits, he said.
The suspect was arrested on an outstanding warrant from another agency and taken to the De Soto Police Department.
“Charges will be sought against this person for tampering with a motor vehicle,” Draper said.
Also on April 7, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle and returned to its owner, he said.
Draper said the De Soto Police Department is grateful when residents step forward with information that helps them with their investigations.
“We appreciate the attention that our citizen gave to this matter in reporting it and the officers who were able to take this subject into custody without further incident,” Draper said.
