The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 52-year-old Farmington man for allegedly using a stolen debit card to purchase items at a House Springs store. The Sheriff’s Office also arrested a 41-year-old Festus woman, who was with the man, for suspected drug possession, authorities reported.

Deputies were called on Aug. 9 to the Buchheit store, 4550 Gravois Road, in House Springs when a woman reported her stolen debit card had been used at the business, the report said.

Surveillance video showed the Farmington man rode a bicycle to the store. He and the Festus woman were seen attempting to buy a generator, but the stolen debit card was declined due to insufficient funds, according to the report.

The man then allegedly used the debit card to purchase a Marine battery and Torch lighters, the report said.

A deputy found the man and woman at the Phillips 66 gas station, 4635 Gravois Road, across the street from the Buchheit store. The battery and lighters were in the basket of the bicycle the man was seen riding, according to the report.

However, the man did not have the debit card that was used to purchase the items, the report said.

The deputy then searched the woman’s purse, and he found suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia, according to the report.

The man and woman were released at the gas station pending the application for a warrant, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office will seek a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for fraudulent use of a credit device, Capt. Moore said.

He also said depending on results of the drug analysis, the Sheriff’s office will seek charges against the woman through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
