Arnold Police are trying to identify a man who allegedly entered a home in the 600 block of Apple Drive through an unlocked basement door and tried to steal items. However, it appeared the man ran away before stealing anything after a woman who lives there returned home, police reported.

The 39-year-old Arnold woman told officers she had just gotten home from McDonald’s and heard noises coming from the basement. She said she went to the door leading to the basement just as a man opened it. He then quickly slammed it shut and ran downstairs, the report said.

The woman said she and her daughter hid in a bedroom and called 911, according to the report.

Arnold Police got a call about the incident at about 10:10 a.m. May 11. When police arrived at the home, the man was gone, but they found two computers stacked on top of each other in the basement. The woman said the computers were not like that before, and investigators believe the man was gathering items to take from the home, Arnold Police reported.

As of May 16, the suspect had not been identified, Cpl. Brett Ackermann said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
