A riding lawn mower, a dishwasher, tools and other items recently were stolen from a home in the 3700 block of Flucom Road in the De Soto area, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Between 7:45 a.m. and 6:40 p.m. Aug. 8, someone forced open a basement door and stole $1,205 in items, the report said.

Stolen items included a John Deere riding lawn mower, a stainless steel dishwasher, a weed eater, a wheel barrow, a drill, a socket set, a Skill saw, a Craftsman hammer, assorted screw drivers, a tape measure, a flat bed, a cooler and a door, according to the report.

The lawn mower was taken from a detached shed and other items were taken from the basement and some from a carport, the report said.

A deputy found a cigarette butt and a broken cigarette on the scene that the culprit could have left behind, so they were taken as evidence and will be tested for DNA, according to the report.

A neighbor told deputies that at about 9:45 a.m. Aug. 8, he saw a copper-colored, 90s-model Chevrolet truck in the driveway, heard a lawn mower start up and then saw the truck leave, pulling a trailer with the lawn mower on it, the report said.

As of Wednesday (Aug. 12), the stolen items had not been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrests, said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
