A juvenile has been arrested for reportedly breaking into Guffey Elementary School and ransacking several closets in the school and stealing items. The boy allegedly used rocks to break a window to get inside the school and stole candy and a backpack, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The principal of the school, which is part of the Fox C-6 School District, was notified about the burglary at about 10:40 p.m. July 8 by the building’s security system. She was not far from the school at 400 13th St. between Arnold and Fenton and drove to the building, the report said.
When she got to the school, she saw an open window in the back of the building. When deputies arrived, they discovered a different window had been shattered and opened. The damage to the window was estimated at about $50, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The boy was identified through surveillance video and was arrested. The Sheriff’s Office would not report the boy’s age or what town he lives in.
The case was turned over to juvenile authorities, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
