Festus man allegedly found with illegal drugs

Jonathon D. Jones

Jonathon D. Jones, 44, of Festus has been charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance after he was allegedly found with illegal drugs at the Express Mart gas station, 999 W. Gannon Drive, in Festus, according to court documents.

He was charged on June 5 with three counts of the class D felony, which are each punishable by up to seven years in prison. He was arrested on June 5, and as of Monday, he was being held on a $5,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records said.

Jones was arrested on May 5, 2024, at the gas station when a Festus Police officer allegedly found him in possession of a syringe with substances suspected of being methamphetamine, capsules suspected of containing fentanyl and hydrocodone pills without having a prescription, the case’s probable-cause statement said.

A test results on the substance by the Missouri State Highway Patrol showed the substance in the syringe was meth, the substance in two capsules was fentanyl and five tablets tested positive as hydrocodone, the report said.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has asked the court to consider the charges against Jones to be class C felonies because he is a prior offender, court records said.

Jones pleaded guilty in May 2011 to possession of a controlled substance in St. Francois County, according to court documents.
