jcso 2 children dead 5-28-24

Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has identified a person of interest in connection with the theft of items worth $4,849 from a home under construction in the 3600 block of Platinum Court in the De Soto area. It appears the culprit broke a lock box, took a key from the box and used the key to get inside the house, authorities reported.

The victim told deputies she discovered the broken lock box on April 17 and noticed that 20 pieces of 20-foot electrical conduit piping and a cordless DeWalt miter saw were missing. The piping was outside the home, and the saw was in the garage, the report said.

Later she discovered a water pump had been taken from the house. She reported the burglary on April 19, according to the report.

The piping was worth about $4,000, the saw about $499 and the water pump about $350, the report said.

As of April 27, none of the items had been recovered, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the burglary to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
