jcso 2 children dead 5-28-24

Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a 2016 Jeep Wrangler from outside a home in the 1300 block of Trails Drive in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. The Sheriff’s Office would not provide an estimated value for stolen items, but said it was at least a $750 felony amount.

The victim told deputies he and his wife had left for the weekend at about 3 p.m. on Aug. 11 and when they returned home on Aug. 13, the Jeep was gone. The report did not say if the Jeep was locked, but the victim said he had the only key to the vehicle.

As of Aug. 22, the Jeep had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
