Jason Daugherty of De Soto is suing his child’s mother, Ashley Parmeley, who is facing felony charges for allegedly killing their daughter and another boy in May.
Daugherty filed the lawsuit on Nov. 5 in the Jefferson County Circuit Court and is representing himself in the lawsuit, according to court documents.
He is seeking a $3 million judgement against Parmeley, 37, of Pevely, who has been accused of shooting and killing their 9-year-old daughter, Scarlet Ahnahleigh Parmeley-Daugherty of Pevely. She also was charged for allegedly killing her 2-year-old son, Isaac James Baum of Festus.
Daugherty is not Baum’s father.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Parmeley with two counts of first-degree murder, each one a class A felony, and one count of armed criminal action, an unclassified felony.
According to Missouri state statutes, first-degree murder is punishable by either death or life imprisonment without eligibility for probation, parole or release except by act of the governor. Armed criminal action carries a penalty of three to 15 years in prison.
Ashley Parmeley has been held at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro without bond since May 28, court documents show.
On May 28, Parmeley drove to the Festus Police Station, 100 Park Ave., and told officers she had killed her children, the probable-cause statement in the case said.
Officers found Scarlet in the trunk of the Mazda SUV Parmeley had driven to the Police Station. Scarlet had a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.
Sheriff’s Office deputies found Isaac in a fountain near the entrance of the Timber Creek Resort, 4800 Hwy. 67, south of Festus. A deputy dove into the water to retrieve the boy. Isaac was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
Parmeley reportedly told investigators she shot Scarlet in the 9000 block of Hwy. E near Bonne Terre, which is in St. Francois County. She also allegedly said before shooting Scarlet she tried to “sacrifice” Isaac in St. Francois, but he was alive when she drove into Jefferson County, where she drowned him at the resort, the report said.
Parmeley initially was charged with murder in both Jefferson and St. Francois counties, but the charges were consolidated and taken up in Jefferson County.
