For the second time in a two-week period, thieves targeted unlocked vehicles parked outside homes in Arnold. This time the thefts occurred in a subdivision off Richardson Road, Arnold Police reported.
The latest string of thefts occurred between 12:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. March 28, when items and money were stolen from at least five unlocked vehicles outside homes on Rosedale Drive and Rosedale Court. Arnold Police reported similar thefts occurred March 15 on Key West Drive.
“As the weather continues to be nice, I’m confident it (thefts from unlocked vehicles) will increase,” Capt. Rich Shular said. “It is a crime of opportunity, and it is easy to check a door, if it is open get in, rifle around, take what they want and get out. It is an easy crime.”
Early on March 28, money or items were stolen from four unlocked vehicles in the 3100 block of Rosedale Drive, and items were stolen from an SUV in the 2000 block of Rosedale Court, police reported.
A 29-year-old St. Mary woman told police $40 was stolen from a 2015 Buick Verano and $5 in change was stolen from a 2014 Chevrolet Impala, both parked outside a home on Rosedale Drive, the report said.
A 38-year-old Arnold man said a Sprint phone and earbuds, together valued at $300, were stolen from a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, and two credit cards and $35 in gift cards were stolen from a 2004 Honda Pilot, which also were parked outside a home on Rosedale Drive, according to the report.
One of the man’s credit cards was used at a Circle K gas station and a Walmart in St. Louis County. Arnold Police plan to review surveillance footage from the businesses, Capt. Rich Shular said.
A 55-year-old Arnold woman said a Lenovo laptop computer, a book bag and a leather notebook were stolen from a 2017 Jeep Cherokee that was parked outside a home on Rosedale Court. Altogether those items were valued at about $370, the report said.
As of April 2, none of the stolen items or money had been recovered, and there were no suspects, Shular said.
“Please secure your vehicles,” he said. “Make sure anything of value left in a vehicle is out of sight or taken out of the vehicle.”
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
