A 36-year-old Kokomo, Ind., woman was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle accident on I-44 near the Six Flags Road exit in Eureka. No one was injured in the accident, Eureka Police reported.
At 5:20 p.m. March 18, the Indiana woman recently was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry west on the interstate, and the car went off the road, struck a guard rail and returned to the interstate before it was hit from behind by a 2009 Ford Fusion driven by a 19-year-old O’Fallon woman. The Camry was totaled, and the Fusion had minor damage and was driven from the scene, the report said.
The Indiana woman appeared disoriented after the accident and told police she was coming from Washington and going to St. Charles. She said she thought she was on I-70, although she was on I-44 headed away from St. Charles, according to the report.
An officer allegedly smelled alcohol on the woman’s breath and arrested her after she refused to take field sobriety tests. The woman was taken to the Police Station, where officers allegedly discovered she had a glass smoking pipe in her pants’ pocket, according to the report.
She was booked and released with summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI and possession of drug paraphernalia, Lt. Michael Werges said.
