A 59-year-old Imperial woman was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after she reportedly crashed an SUV on I-55 near Hwy. 141 in Arnold. The woman was taken to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County after saying her shoulder hurt, Arnold Police reported.

At about 10:50 p.m. March 30, an Arnold Police Officer saw the SUV on top of a concrete curb on the interstate with the vehicle’s front end crushed against a street sign. When the officer opened the driver-side door, he saw the air bags were deployed and the woman was lying across both the driver-side and passenger-side seats, the report said.

The woman reportedly told the officer she didn’t know how the accident occurred. She also allegedly said she had been at a bar and had two drinks before leaving the bar and driving, according to the report.

She was transported by Rock Township Ambulance to the hospital, where she received citations to appear in Arnold Municipal Court for allegedly driving while intoxicated, failing to drive in a single lane, driving without proof of insurance and failing to report an accident, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said.
