A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy allegedly found suspected illegal drugs in a cigarette pack a 32-year-old Imperial man threw away while talking with the deputy at an Imperial gas station. The deputy had tried to stop the man for speeding earlier in the day, authorities reported.
The deputy was driving south on Hwy. 141 near Romaine Creek Road in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton at about 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18 when he saw the man riding a motorcycle at a high rate of speed. The deputy used his radar to confirm the man was speeding and turned on his cruiser’s lights and sirens to stop the man, the report said.
The man allegedly accelerated and sped away from the deputy, who did not pursue the motorcycle. The deputy saw the man had numerous distinct tattoos before he sped away, according to the report.
At about 3:30 p.m. that day, the same deputy saw the motorcycle the man was riding at the BP gas station, 2099 Old Hwy. 21, in Imperial. The deputy pulled into the gas station and saw the man, who had similar tattoos to the ones the deputy had seen earlier, the report said.
While talking with the deputy, the man threw a cigarette pack away. The deputy retrieved the discarded pack, and he found a bag with suspected narcotics inside it, according to the report.
The man was released at the scene pending the application for a warrant, the report said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, the Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, Capt. Matt Moore said.
