A home at 804 Country Glen Drive in Imperial was damaged by smoke and fire Wednesday night, said Chris Lindner, a fire inspector and investigator with Rock Community Fire Protection District.

He said the home had smoke alarms, which alerted three people who were inside, and they got out unharmed.

Rock Fire got a call around 8 p.m. about the fire, which was a small one in a basement bedroom at the home, Lindner said.

By the time firefighters arrived, one of the residents had extinguished the fire with a garden hose, Lindner said.

The man stood outside the home and sprayed water under the basement door, which put out the fire, Lindner added.

He said the fire appeared accidental and started on a dresser in the basement bedroom.

The residents said a candle was on top of the dresser, so that may have been the cause, Lindner said.

He said the residents rent the home.

There wasn’t a lot of fire damage, Lindner said, but the residents probably won’t be able to move back in until the smoke damage is cleaned up.

The Red Cross assisted the family of three with food and shelter, the organization reported.
