The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is trying to identify two people who were seen walking around a car moments before it was stolen from outside a home in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. The car was later recovered in St. Louis, police reported.

Deputies were called to a house in the 1200 block of Fenton Ridge Drive after a red 2020 Hyundai Elantra was stolen. Surveillance video showed two people walking around the car at about 1 a.m. July 21, the report said.

After the video shows the people near the car, the camera stops recording. When the camera starts recording again, the car is gone, according to the report.

Investigators used Flock license-plate detection cameras to track the stolen car to St. Louis, where it was recovered. The Sheriff’s Office did not say when the car was recovered.

It is not known if the car was locked and if the keys were inside it. The Sheriff’s Office does not report approximate values for stolen vehicles.

As of Aug. 7, the people seen in the surveillance video have not been identified or been declared suspects, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the stolen car to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
