Authorities are awaiting lab results they hope will identify human remains found Monday morning (Nov. 2) in House Springs, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said today (Nov. 4).
Bissell also said he could not say if the remains were from an adult or child or from a man or woman.
The remains were found at about 8:45 a.m. Monday, when a company was clearing land along Hillsboro House Springs Road south of Hwy. MM. Sheriff’s Office personnel investigated the area for most of Monday and resumed the investigation Tuesday (Nov. 3), with help from cadaver dogs, Bissell said.
The Sheriff’s Office is not investigating the area today, he said.
Bissell said it is not known how the remains ended up in the area, and the Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out foul play.
“Any time there is a death or human remains located, you have to take the approach that this is at least potentially foul play,” he said. “You kind of work your way backwards and eliminate that it could be (foul play) based on what you find. (Investigators) always take the approach of was this suspicious or malicious and work backwards from there.”
