Reed B. Ludwig, 48, of House Springs allegedly broke into two homes north of Hillsboro. He also allegedly fought with a man at one of the homes and was found hiding under a vehicle outside of the other home, according to court documents.

Ludwig has been charged with felony first-degree burglary and misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree assault, second-degree property damage and first-degree trespassing. He was arrested on June 29, and as of July 2, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court and jail records show.

According to the probable-cause statement filed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, on June 29, Ludwig entered a home in the 5700 block of Brook Stone Drive and was banging on a closet door in the living room. A man, who lives at the home, woke up because of the noise and confronted Ludwig.

The man told investigators that Ludwig would not leave, even after the man retrieved his gun and attempted to escort Ludwig out. The man said Ludwig hit him, and the two fell off the front porch, damaging the porch railing, the report said.

The man said Ludwig continued to hit him outside the home before Ludwig ran away, according to the report.

Ludwig then allegedly entered a home in the 5800 block of Brook Stone Drive. A woman said Ludwig was screaming when he entered the house, the report said.

When a deputy arrived at the second home, he found Ludwig hiding under a vehicle outside of the woman’s home. The deputy wrote Ludwig appeared to be intoxicated, and that Ludwig spit on emergency medical service personnel while he was being treated outside the home.

Ludwig allegedly has threatened people who live in the neighborhood, saying he would “destroy them all when he is out,” the probable-cause statement said.

Ludwig has previously been convicted on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, second-degree burglary, driving while intoxicated and third-degree assault, according to court records.
